tree stump - letter-wilson

Tree cut down in Constantine Road near South End Green

• YOU published a letter from me accompanied by a photograph of the stump of an apparently healthy tree cut down in Constantine Road, (Why cut down this tree? August 4).

Councillor Larraine Revah raised an enquiry with Camden Council, and we have now heard from them that the tree had died and while the stump looks healthy enough to the lay person, the expert can detect “there are fungal brackets visible at the base and the wood where the final cut was made shows decay extending out from the centre of the tree”.

They also assure us that the tree will be replaced in the next planting programme.
