We are proud of our record with the CIP

• AS candidates in Camden Town with Primrose Hill we are particularly proud of the record of Camden Labour in building new social housing and community facilities through the Community Investment Programme (CIP).

In particular CIP has proved to be particularly successful in consulting and engaging with local residents not only on the principle of every specific redevelopment but also in every phase of the projects, allowing tenants not only to discuss the wider issues but even to have a voice in the details, like choosing the appliances for their kitchens.

For this reason we think that also private developers should adopt the highest standards of consultations and engagement with their current tenants, when they plan large redevelopment schemes.

In particular we have been working with residents in Juniper Crescent and Gilbey’s Yard in our ward in relation to the regeneration scheme that One Housing Group is planning in the area and we welcome their offer for a ballot of the residents, following Sadiq Khan’s new engagement policy on regeneration.

We really think this ballot should not be a “yes / no” referendum but a formal part of the offer appraisal, a way of engaging with tenants and allowing them to express their opinions on the different solutions that are under exam at the moment, the first step of a long and meaningful engagement process.

We believe that the success of a regeneration scheme is not measured simply by the number of social houses that are built as a result, but by the real improvement that the scheme brings to the life of the people who will live there in the future.
