• I HAVE recently returned from the USA where I tripped and needed two stitches to my lip.

The doctor’s bill for that is $1,279 and I await the bill for the hospital’s emergency room, bathing of wounds, tetanus injection, etc.

Whatever our gripes about the NHS we really are fortunate to have a health service free at the point of use and with dedicated doctors and nurses doing an incredible job under less than perfect conditions.
