‘If we want a first-rate NHS we have got to be prepared to pay for it‘

• WE completely support the junior doctors’ strike action – that was the view of the Caversham Patients’ Participation Group at our meeting on July 13.

Inevitably the strike causes some short-term inconvenience and delay in getting appointments. But all NHS staff need to have decent pay and decent working conditions.

That is what the junior doctors are seeking to achieve and, in the long term, that is in the best interests of the NHS and the country. If we want a first-rate NHS – and we do – we have got to be prepared to pay for it.
