• THE new 20mph speed limit on Finchley Road in the area of Swiss Cottage was not highly publicised.

Consequently numerous motorists have been prosecuted for the most minor infringements, namely driving at about 24mph along what is basically a commercial highway.

However, I have noticed buses appearing to greatly exceed this limit and wonder if they are exempt from this restriction.

Moreover, I wonder why the limit in The Bishops Avenue, a wholly residential area remains at 40mph. Are there different criteria in Camden and Barnet?

A friend of mine who unwittingly exceeded the limit there ended up at a speed awareness course and posed these two questions at my suggestion. She was met with no response.
