• LATE on Saturday afternoon, after the quarter-final match, jubilant England fans erupted onto Camden High Street laying siege and stopping the traffic.

From the top of a bus that had ground to a halt, I could see lone motorists encircled by hordes of uninhibited young men. To be allowed to go forward, the motorists had to sound their horn to the rhythm of the chanting.

And this wasn’t even the semi-final. How would it be if our luck changes and the mood darkens? I advise everyone to keep clear of high streets anywhere in the borough, stay in and hide behind sofas.
