OLYMPIANS from Australia’s women’s beach volleyball squad brought their expertise to Coram’s Fields on Tuesday
But officials at the popular playground fear their own free coaching sessions could be under threat next year.
Coram’s Fields is desperately fundraising in a bid to both keep its free after-school, evening and school holiday sports sessions running in 2013, and to replace its ageing Astro Turf pitches.
“Our sports programme has been as popular as ever during the holidays,” said Coram’s Fields director Octavia Holland.
“We’ve been reaching over 100 children every day and now we need to work hard to keep the funding going from January.”
The charity had raised enough cash to keep its free sports programme going this year but the pot is empty for 2013.
“What’s important in the future is keeping the programme going,” added Ms Holland.
“Everybody is trying to raise money. We are looking for support.”
