Veolia’s whitewashing the café wall was a disgrace

Cafe owner Said Effafali said he paid for artist Loretto for one of the murals [Photos: Chris Jones]
• THE report that Veolia contractors summarily whitewashed what they deemed an offensive mural on a café wall in Gray’s Inn Road, Holborn, with no prior consultation and just two days after a “a report of an offensive graffiti was made by a member of the public” was astonishing (It’s Too Late to Save the Queen!, November 2).
This is the company whose street cleaning is often a bit of a joke. This humour did not extend it seems to the mural of the Queen.
I make no defence of it as art but for Veolia to act as imperious judge and jury on it is a disgrace. I hope Said Effafali takes them to court to have it reinstated at their own cost.
