Vacancy: Reporter
We are looking to hire a journalist to join the team
Monday, 8th June

POSTED: June 8, 2026
The Camden New Journal group is looking to hire a full-time news journalist.
This opportunity is likely to be best suited to someone with at least one year’s experience of gathering and writing news stories.
More important than journalism qualifications and experience, however, will be enthusiasm and imagination for working on a small, independent newspaper, and a natural curiosity.
The successful candidate will be able to cover both diary events and their own self-started ideas. They will also be ready to work on video output.
This is not a breaking news, online-only role. Reporters on the team are encouraged to get out, meet people and source their own stories beyond social media tips and police press releases.
They will be good all-rounders, capable of covering crime, local politics and unusual human-interest stories. Some stories will be big enough to be picked up by national newspapers; others will be small but important community events.
Applicants will benefit from having a working knowledge of our readership areas, a good appreciation of current affairs, strong online skills and a keen news sense.
They must have a clear writing style which cuts through jargon. Being able to interview people with sensitivity and scrutiny, as required, is also a must-have skill.
There is some flexible working, but the role will involve evening work and occasional weekend duties, depending on how stories develop. The position is based at our offices at 40 Camden Road, London, NW1 9DR.
CVs and covering letters, including suggestions about what applicants can bring to the role, should be sent to the editor, Richard Osley, at richard@camdennewjournal.co.uk.

Salary will be dependent on experience but competitive with local newspaper industry rates.
There is no closing date, as we are looking to find the right candidate as soon as possible.
This page will be updated when the position has been filled.
Depending on the number of applications received, we may not be able to reply to all applicants, but we will endeavour to do so.
