Using hotels could free up ward space in hospitals
Thursday, 11th February 2021

‘Why can we not put recovering patients in hotel rooms?’
• IF incomers are having to quarantine in hotels why can we not put recovering patients in hotel rooms where they would have isolation, power points for medical machinery, and en-suite facilities?
Meals could be delivered from the hotel kitchen and nursing staff could use the dining room. If these medical staff have been brought in from another area, they could sleep on different floors of the hotel.
This would free up wards at the Royal Free, UCL, and Whittington hospitals for heart, cancer and other serious procedures.
I remain not at all confident that at least one of these hospitals, would turn empty wards into private wards, joining the wards that have already gone that way!
