Use HS2 money to improve the existing railways
Thursday, 28th March 2019

• TRANSPORT is the biggest source of climate emissions in the UK, and car journeys are the main reason.
I fully support the imminent roll-out of the ULEZ ultra low emission zone and think we should go further and have traffic-free days with free public transport each month.
Another enormous problem in Camden is the disruption surrounding the arrival of HS2 to Euston. The entire area surrounding the station is clogged up with works and it is apparent that there isn’t the infrastructure to cope with the increase in commuters HS2 will deliver to this overcrowded area.
Buses travelling through Euston and King’s Cross are slowed by heavy traffic squeezing through ever tighter and congested roads. It’s a nightmare! How will all the additional passengers arriving via HS2 travel onward to their destinations?
This money should be reprioritised to repair our existing railways across the whole of the country, as well as investing in walking, cycling, buses, and trams.
