RIVALRIES will be reignited next month when Cobden Athletic take on Coalition Crusaders in the semi finals of the Camden Sunday League Challenge Cup, which we proudly sponsor.

The teams went head-to-head in an epic final last year, with the Crusaders coming out on top after holding their nerve in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

Cobden have now given themselves the chance to gain revenge, however, after beating Battersea AFC on Sunday in a one-sided quarter-final.

Kaleb King struck twice for Dave Willis’s side, while Winston Fowler and Luke Morgan were also both on target in a deserved 4-1 win.

The winners of the Cobden versus Crusaders showdown will play FC Lotus, who booked their place in the final by smashing in seven in their semi-final against AFC Shooters on Sunday.

Goals from John Magnus, Kardel Saunders, Matthew Ball and Wilker Soares saw Lotus wrap the game up within 20 minutes as they raced into a 4-0 lead.

Soares struck again before the half-time interval, while second half strikes from captain Jack Taylor and substitute Marvin Patterson put the icing on an impressive 7-3 win.

Club secretary Joshua Amartey insists that Lotus aren’t in the final just to make up the numbers.

“On paper we might look like underdogs but I assure you we won’t be.

“There’s no point in getting to the final unless you try to win it. Whoever we face it’ll be very difficult, but not impossible,” he said.
