THE judges of the Regional Press Awards – our industry’s ‘Oscars’ – have decided that two of the top five weekly reporters in the UK write for the Camden New Journal.

It was revealed on Friday that both Tom Foot and Frankie Lister-Fell are in their final shortlist for the coveted ‘reporter of the year’ gong.

Tom’s reporting on the doorstep drug deals in King’s Cross meant police could no longer ignore the daily problems faced by residents in and around Wicklow Street and he has published stories which really made a difference to the community.

Frankie’s articles on homelessness went national when she reported that people’s tents and belongings were being cleared into rubbish trucks – a story which lead to a council investigation into the horrible sequence of events in Huntley Street.

Meanwhile, the Camden New Journal has been shortlisted among the best weekly newspapers again for a team award.

The winners will be announced next year but the three nominations in UK-wide awards speak for themselves about how an independent title like ours can mix it with the big media companies through hard work and determination.
