Two faces of our local democracy
Thursday, 5th August 2021
• YOU report that the Wendling and St Stephen’s Close estate is to be demolished and rebuilt after 75 per cent of the residents backed the plan, with Cllr Danny Beales (regeneration chief) saying “we would only move forward with these proposals with the backing of residents”, (Estate to be demolished as 75 per cent back new homes, July 29).
Simultaneously, 69 per cent of local residents and 78 per cent of business owners directly oppose the creation of the Haverstock Hill cycle lane, but Cllr Adam Harrison (transport chief) is apparently ignoring this and imposing the scheme anyway, (Cycle lane’s green light, July 29).
So while the council is happy to accept residents’ views on regeneration, it won’t listen to those on transport, then? Local democracy in action once again.
