A “WATERFALL” on the Lissenden Gardens estate has become something of a local landmark – it’s even getting reviews on Google, writes Caitlin Maskell.

For nearly a year, a faulty pipe on the roof of Parliament Hill Mansions near Hampstead Heath has been leaking water down the side of the building, soaking ground-floor flats and the communal bin area.

Poking fun at the issue, tenant Illona Papava decided to list the leak on Google Maps as a historical site.

“We tried to bring attention to it in a funny way – otherwise it’s just miserable,” said Ms Papava.

“If I was in one of those flats I would be furious and I know how hard it is to get Camden to fix things.”

To Ms Papava’s surprise people have been leaving reviews of the “Lissenden Waterfall”, seven in total – with one five-star review saying: “Just got back from Iceland, and believe it or not, none of its waterfalls hold a candle to this one. There’s something otherworldly about urban water cascading through the streets of Lissenden. Truly magical. Highly recommend.”

Nadia Jones, a council tenant whose ground-floor property is being affected by the leak, said: “That’s the water we use to wash with – and I have small children. It’s been causing huge water damage in my flat. The water splashes onto my walls and it’s coming through into my kitchen because it’s constantly wet. I’ve put in around four or five complaints since I’ve moved in which some have been upheld and some haven’t– but as far as I’m concerned I pay my rent every month I look after my property.”

A Camden Council spokesperson said: “We apologise to residents for the issues they have been experiencing. Contractors have visited the building multiple times in the last week to speak to residents and investigate this. A pipework issue was identified which may be causing the water tank to overflow. Works to repair this are being carried out urgently over the next couple of days.”
