Mark Carroll died in St Martin’s Gardens in April

A MEMORIAL for a man who was stabbed to death in broad daylight next to a children’s play park has been put up by his family to commemorate what would have been his 56th birthday.

Mark Carroll – known fondly by his friends as “Mogi” – of Albany Street was killed in St Martin’s Gardens, Camden Town, on April 10.

Days after his death, flowers, a bottle of beer and a framed picture of Mr Carroll were left at the entrance of the park.

The New Journal has seen the physical tributes to him left at the spot change over time, but this week there were multiple flowers, cards and candles left there to wish him a happy birthday, which was on August 10.

One read: “On the 10th April beloved Dad and grandfather (Mark) was sadly killed here. We ask that this is a place of peace from now on. A place for kindness and love.

“Please be kind to each other. The world could use a little more happiness. On days you can, please light a candle. Happy birthday dad.”

Following his death, one of Mr Carroll’s friends, Tracy, told the New Journal: “Mogi would be here [St Martin’s Gardens] every day, you could be sure of that. You notice that he’s not here. You can feel the silence, it’s palpable. Mogi stands for ‘master of gaming institute’ because he was a gamer when he was younger.

“He was just our Mogi, our Mark. And we loved him dearly. I miss him.”

Rasheed Rahman, 19, has been charged with murder and has also been charged with possession of a bladed article and robbery. A trial has been set for next March.
