MEMBERS of Hampstead Triathlon Club are already busy clocking up the miles in training after setting their sights on making 2016 their biggest year yet.

The 70-strong squad are going to have their work cut out, however, after swimming, cycling and running their way to unprecedented success last season.

Hampstead went head-to-head against some of the top triathlon teams from across Europe as they took part in the Ironman Tri-Club Program, where they finished fourth out of 85 clubs in their division – and were the top club from Great Britain.

Founder Daniel Bingham, who started the club just three years ago, said he was delighted with being crowned the best club in the country.

“It took a real team effort to achieve such a fantastic result, especially for such a young club,” he said.

“But we’re not all about results and winning.

“Our club philosophy is about being all-inclusive – we want everyone to come along and have fun, and not worry about the results. We started out with six or eight members, and now have over 70 members with a very even split of males and females.

“People shouldn’t be intimidated by a triathlon or think that they can’t do it.

“We have some excellent coaches here and we’re always looking for new members to sign up.”
