CAMDEN’S very own Trae Coyle sent Arsenal first-team manager Mikel Arteta a timely reminder of the talent he has at his disposal on Monday night.
The 20-year-old winger, who grew up in Chalk Farm and used to attend Gospel Oak Primary School, showed all of his pace and power as he set up two of Arsenal’s three goals against Derby County Under-23s in the Premier League 2.
Trailing 1-0 at the break at Loughborough University Stadium, Kido Taylor-Hart levelled for the Gunners five minutes after the restart when he pounced on a loose ball inside the area and swivelled with a silky first touch before firing into the bottom corner.
Derby quickly edged back in front, but Coyle, who also went to St Aloysius School and represented Islington in the London Youth Games, wasn’t about to let Arsenal drop points.
Outstanding all evening on the right wing, he broke free inside the penalty area on 70 minutes, raced to the byline and picked out teammate Folarin Balogun, who made no mistake in finding the bottom corner.
And then, in the 83rd minute, an inviting delivery from Coyle – mixed with a touch of good fortune – led to Joe Bateman inadvertently bundling the ball into his own net to earn the Gunners a 3-2 victory.
It was only Arsenal’s sixth win in 21 Division One games, leaving them in 10th place in a 13-team table.
Meanwhile, the Gunners’ Under-18s side suffered their eighth defeat of the season at Fulham on Saturday when they were beaten 3-1 in the Premier League South. Joel Ideho scored Arsenal’s goal.
