BUDDING track and field stars enjoyed their moment in the sun on Friday as more than 750 children took part in the Camden Schools Sports Association Athletics Championships at Parliament Hill Fields.
Youngsters took to the track for a series of scintillating sprints over distances ranging from 60m to 800m and the 4x50m relays.
They also faced testing disciplines in the field, competing in the cricket ball throw, the long jump and the triple jump.
Rosary pupil Dominic Ogbechie put in one of the best individual performances as he recorded a distance of 6.88m in the triple jump, one of the best jumps seen in the competition over the past 20 years.
Staying in the field, Brookfield’s Sabrin Mohammed was the only girl to reach the two metres mark in the long jump.
On the track Rufus Poss-Davies, who goes to Gospel Oak, caught the eye as he set a new record in the 800m with his time of 2 minutes, 49 seconds. Marley Simms from Primrose Hill School also did well as he completed his 60m sprint in 9.05 seconds.
Sisters Nicole and Olivia Bowen from Christ Church School in Hampstead starred in the longer distance races, finishing first and second respectively in both the 400m and 800m events. It was an extra special achievement for Olivia after she was tripped at the start of the 400m but picked herself up to finish second, and overcame cuts and grazes to repeat the feat in the 800m.
Sponsored by Camden Sports Council and supported by the Camden Sports and Physical Activity Team, the championships yet again proved a huge success.
After a day of top action it was Rosary School in Belsize Park who were crowned champs, with Christ Church in Hampstead winning the Small Schools Trophy.
