Youngsters from London Heathside couldn’t hide their delight after winning the Middlesex Youth Athletics League.

They notched up an impressive 222 points from six athletics meets over the summer to finish ahead of runners-up Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers, and Ealing, who were third. Reigning champions Highgate Harriers finished fourth.

The league sees junior athletes from leading athletics clubs across north and north-west London battle it out in a wide range of track and field events, from the long jump and discus, to 75m hurdles and 1,500m.

Finsbury Park-based Heathside boast great riches within their youth ranks, including Trey Corlis who recently won a silver medal in the 80m hurdles while representing London at the National School Championships. The Under-15s athlete is also London Schools 100m champion.

Clubmate Suraya Frost, who competes in the Under-13s age group, is ranked third nationally in the 70m hurdles, while Gabriel Edwards is the top-ranked Under-11s athlete in 75m, 100m, 150m and 200m, and the long jump.
