WITH just two games left to go, Camden Town WFC are certainly ending their season in style as they lay down a marker for what is to come.
A rare midweek offering saw Darren Smith’s side seal a commanding 4-1 comeback victory over Hackney under the lights at the Maurice Rebak Stadium last Thursday.
Having found themselves a goal down early on, Town responded with authority.
Anna Kimberley produced a brilliant solo effort to level the scores, before Kelly Faye turned the match around from the penalty spot after Ginny Somers was brought down in the box.
Faye struck again in the second half, this time from distance. Spotting the goalkeeper off her line, Town’s vice-captain unleashed a stunning long-range effort that sailed into the back of the net.
A joyous night in North Finchley ended with a milestone to remember as Camden introduced their 16th academy player to break into the first-team in the past three years.
Chloe Nuttall stepped off the bench to produce the perfect cross for Somers, who finished with aplomb.
It took Town’s tally to 10 goals in their last two games after they smashed Soccer Elite Football Academy 6-0 in their previous outing.
It also means that they now boast an impressive record of 12 wins and five draws from 18 matches in Division One North of the London & South East Regional Women’s League.
What has pleased club chairman Richard Mahoney the most, however, is the foundations that are being built to ensure a bright future, with Nuttall joining other academy players like Shyla Minott out on the pitch.
He said: “It was fantastic to see Chloe and Shyla involved, these are the moments that show the pathway is real.
“A huge amount of credit goes to our academy coaches and the parents for their commitment. Nights like this are the reward for all that hard work. It’s special, and it’s only the beginning for these young players.
“These opportunities aren’t given lightly at a club like Camden, you really have to earn them, and they absolutely have.”
