HOME fans are set to get their first glimpse of new signing Sabine Ghag this Sunday when Camden Town WFC host Ashford United at the Maurice Rebak Stadium.
Town moved quickly to snap up Ghag from Sutton United earlier this month to add further quality and competition to their midfield as the club enters the business end of the season.
“I’m really excited to join Camden Town WFC,” said Ghag, who made a brief cameo appearance from the substitutes’ bench on Sunday against Hackney.
“It’s a club with big ambitions and a great environment, and I’m looking forward to contributing and helping the team push forward.”
Town will be aiming to return to winning ways in Division One North of the London & South East Regional League this weekend after being held to a 1-1 draw against Hackney on Sunday.
Amy Nicholson headed Hackney into the lead midway through the first half, but Town equalised just before the hour mark courtesy of a clinical finish from Sophie Hoyle.
The visitors continued to push for a winner, even after being reduced to 10 players when Kelly Faye was shown a second yellow card late on for dissent.
Defending his player, Town chairman Richard Mahoney said: “Kelly has my full support. She’s a passionate player who cares deeply and was simply seeking clarity in a high-pressure moment.
“I do think, as the women’s game continues to grow, there’s an opportunity for everyone involved, including officials, to keep developing how communication is managed on the pitch.
“We have huge respect for referees and the job they do, but better understanding and dialogue in those moments can only help the game.”
With the draw ending Town’s three-game winning run, Mahoney added: “I’m incredibly proud of the players and the way they approached the match. We felt we controlled large parts of it and created the better moments, so it’s naturally frustrating when key decisions don’t go our way.”
The result leaves Camden 18 points behind Hammersmith, albeit still boasting four games in hand on the leaders.
Accessing the side’s latest offering, interim manager Darren Smith said: “There’s a lot to be positive about. I thought we were the better side for long periods; we played on the front foot and the players executed the game plan really well against a tough, organised opponent.
“Of course we’re disappointed not to win, especially with the chances we had. But the character of the group, particularly after going down to 10 players, was excellent. We’ll keep going, stay focused and take the positives into the next one.”
