Town aces bow out with a bang!
Fairy-tale ending for Somers Town FC in Challenge Cup final
Thursday, 25th May 2023 — By Steve Barnett

PLAYERS from Somers Town FC got their fairy-tale ending on Friday when they bowed out of the Camden & Islington Youth League in a blaze of glory.
With the Under-18s side ageing out of the competition this season, and with a number of their players now setting their sights on university, it was always going to be an emotional night at the artificial football pitches in Market Road.
Cheered passionately by a large crowd, the dream scenario for Somers was one that ended in silverware. But it wouldn’t be easy as they faced a strong Stoke Newington Reds side in the Challenge Cup final.
In the end it took just one goal to separate the two teams, with Somers’ captain Peter Yeboah leading by example as he pounced to score after Aaron Fordjour’s initial shot was parried by the goalkeeper.
Stoke Newington rallied in the second half, but the Somers defence, expertly marshalled by Noedy Lovandu, stood firm. Goalkeeper Mohammed Benbellil also played his part, making a brilliant reaction save in the final minutes to preserve the 1-0 lead – ensuring that Somers last game together was a memorable one.
