Today’s children are healthier

• IT’S always saddening when anyone who highlights any concerns regarding vaccination is then accused of being “untruthful” or an “ignoramus”, or even being responsible for children dying of measles! (When unvaccinated children die of measles, it is the fault of false claims, April 25).

A growing number of individuals worldwide, including doctors and nurses are deeply concerned about vaccine injuries and deaths, and it’s questionable efficacy. The biggest declines in measles mortality occurred before the single measles vaccine in 1968.

In the British Medical Journal reporting doctors back in 1959 referred to measles as “normally a mild infection”. Another doctor (BMJ February 17 1968) stated: “I have not seen a complication of measles for at least the last four epidemics and I do not prescribe routine antibiotics. A child who contracts measles is ill for a few days and is protected for life.”

This was the reality back then regarding measles in the UK; it had become a much milder disease generally. Complications can occur but these are now rare and there will be underlying factors or mismanagement of the disease. Quoting worldwide figures is misleading.

If the main causes of disease, that is, poor housing and sanitation, lack of clean water, and poor nutrition were addressed measles cases and deaths would also fall in the developing world in the same manner that we have experienced in the UK over the last century.

Children are far from healthy these days, with many chronic conditions and mental health issues, despite an ever-increasing vaccine schedule. I urge readers to educate themselves on this subject.
