THE division two title race in the Chalk Farm Pool League has been blown wide open after leaders King’s Cross Barbarians were beaten for the second time in three weeks.

In mid-January the Barbarians boasted a 25-point lead over the chasing pack, having pocketed 12 wins out of 12. That lead has now been cut to just 14 points after King’s Cross Invaders came from 3-1 down to chalk up a 6-3 win on Monday night, with Kevin Nunn potting the decisive black.

The team best placed to pounce should the Barbarians falter is Boston Old Skool, who made it seven wins on the spin on Monday with a 6-3 win over Regent’s Park TA.

The big news in division one was Paul “Tick Tock” McCarthy gaining sweet revenge over fellow Northern Irishman Brendan O’Hara.

Tick Tock McCarthy

We reported last week how O’Hara cashed in on a large slice of luck to pot a decisive black against McCarthy and earn the Golden Lion a 5-4 win over Boston Rimmers in the Liam Tarrant Cup.

Well, in this week’s league rerack it was Tick Tock who came out on top in another closely-fought contest. The Lion got the last laugh, however, winning 5-4 – although the bragging rights definitely belong to McCarthy.
