Time to say this is an open and inclusive borough
Thursday, 26th April 2018
• AS long-standing resident of Camden I have always been proud of the diversity, creativity and inclusivity that is to be found in the borough.
What an immensely rich mix of ethnicities, cultures and religious faiths we have here – something which has been brought home to me vividly going from door to door in my first ever election campaign.
It has been truly heartening to find that Camden residents by and large share this love and acceptance of diversity and are appalled, as I am, by all manifestations of hostility and intolerance towards those of other cultures and faiths.
Against the backdrop of the government’s shameful creation of a “really hostile environment” for migrants, including those who came as part of the Windrush generation, and the strain of intolerance that is undeniably a part of the modern Labour Party, there has never been a more important time for the people of Camden to say loud and clear that this is a genuinely open and inclusive borough and that it intends to stay that way.
The Liberal Democrats are offering Camden voters the chance to send that message on May 3. I hope they will seize it.
