‘Not being able to rely on the public toilets creates a form of forced isolation’

• WHERE should those out shopping in Camden Town and needing “relief” find a toilet?

Last week I noticed that both the Gents and Ladies were still closed.

The Gents has been closed since 2022 and the excuse Camden Council keep reeling out is that they are waiting for urgent repairs.

As reported in the CNJ on April 21 2022, council leader Georgia Gould stated: “Repairs will start on the men’s toilets as a priority and the women’s toilets will be reinstated even sooner.”

Not being able to rely on the public toilets being open prevents many, especially the elderly, from getting out of the house, which creates a form of forced isolation that is detrimental to their health and wellbeing.

In the above-mentioned article, Cllr Gould recognises that this is a “priority”; yet here we are in November 2023 and both toilets are still closed.

It is time the council honoured its promise.
