Time for electoral reform

Over to you Sir Keir Starmer
• THE Labour Party’s conference overwhelmingly, resoundingly demonstrated support for Electoral Reform without much acknowledgement from Keir Starmer, but what about Sir Keir’s constituents?
Make Votes Matter, the Campaign for Equal Votes was in Kentish Town last Saturday to meet them and on postcards written to Sir Keir they were saying: “It’s about time!”; “It has to be done for the good of all”; “We want equal votes”; “It’s really needed for true democracy”; “So every vote is meaningful even in safe seats.”
On his own pronouncements the last one especially would surely resonate with Sir Keir? And Labour’s big majority was when it had PR in the manifesto, so not a hindrance.
Indeed the British Social Attitudes Survey this week saw a record-breaking high in public support for reform, backed by 51 per cent.
A recent survey of marginal seats, including the “red wall”, found most voters back electoral reform. We’ve also collected postcards for north London MPs David Lammy, Emily Thornberry and Mike Freer.
Over to you Sir Keir.
