TOTTENHAM have announced a blanket freeze on season ticket prices for next season.

The club had originally planned to put 2 per cent on top of the cost of the ticket – but have now back-tracked.

A Spurs statement said: “The club recognises the need to keep football affordable and facilitate a fantastic atmosphere. We also want to acknowledge the unstinting support we receive in all competitions.”

This year youngsters have been able to come to games for just £5 and Spurs said they noted how successful the scheme had been.

With the club set to earn millions from the new TV deal and, potentially, a run in the Champions League next season, they have decided they can afford to scrap any price rise. And with the new stadium to fill the club believe awarding the fans’ loyalty is paramount.

The statement added: “We have been consciously pricing cup matches to reward great support and will continue to do so.

“In addition family tickets have been a key feature of the packages we have offered in order to attract fans of all ages and enable young fans to enjoy watching the team live.”

Meanwhile Jan Vertonghen is set to sign a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2019.

Vertonghen had previously delayed signing a new deal but having becoming a senior figure in a young squad challenging on multiple fronts, he said he now wants to remain at Spurs.
