Those who have engaged in anti-Semitism are not our comrades

• WE welcome Jeremy Corbyn’s letter to the leaders of the Jewish community in which he recognises that “anti-Semitism has surfaced within the Labour Party, and has too often been dismissed as simply a matter of a few bad apples”.
He goes on to give the assurance that: “Zero tolerance for anti-Semites means what it says, and the party will proceed in that spirit.”
We endorse the statement from Keir Starmer, Tulip Siddiq and Georgia Gould in which they welcome Jeremy Corbyn’s letter and pledge solidarity with the Jewish community, while assuring everyone that “anti-Semitism will not be tolerated in Camden and it must not be tolerated in the Labour Party.”
These are powerful statements: they must now be translated into action. Anti-Semitism is the antithesis of all that Labour has stood for, for over 100 years.
Those who have engaged in it are not our comrades. They have brought our party and the wider labour movement into disrepute. They have increased the dangers facing our Jewish community. They are our adversaries and we will not rest until they have been driven from our movement.
Zero tolerance demands urgent, powerful action, or it becomes a meaningless, empty phrase. Christine Shawcroft, Ken Livingstone and Jackie Walker have no place within our ranks. The time for fine words is over. The time for action is at hand.
Without a determined drive to rid Labour of these alien and hostile elements these statements and declarations are hollow and debased. As the suffragettes demanded in their campaigns: deeds, not words.
