• THE dreadful Number 1 bus crash on New Year’s Day at South End Green came as no great surprise to me.

It was fortunate that nobody was injured, though no doubt it has caused a lot of distress to many.

In my view this was an accident waiting to happen.

For years I have campaigned for the relocation of the Number 1 bus stand for various reasons, in particular health and safety.

On September 29 2022, my letter to the CNJ to this effect was published.

My next letter published on the September 19 2024 specifically stated that “the two sharp turns the buses have to make from the stand to Marks and Spencer are pretty lethal and a danger to other road users”.

The sooner this bus stand is relocated, the safer, healthier and more pleasant this area will be.
