• THIS tree stands out at a bus stop on Kilburn High Road in the late September, stunning sunshine, not experienced previously in my almost 50 years living in north London near this ancient Roman highway London to Chester, Watling Street.

Later it became the watering place for medieval horse-drawn carriages before moving on uphill to Cricklewood and Colindale and Edgware at the time when Kilburn Priory stood up in the fields towards Finchley Road.

One signpost still at Golders Green has three directional arms, Hampstead, Finchley and London. All you really need.
