This traffic ‘consultation’ offers no options
Friday, 26th February 2021
• CAMDEN are proposing to make a number of improvements in the Camden Square area to, as they state, create safer and healthier streets and to prioritise walking and cycling.
Some of us received the flyer in our post boxes but there are a number of residents who have not received this information and have no knowledge of it.
From what is stated on the flyer, there is only one proposal on offer with no options to consider. The consultation is only open until February 28.
What is alarming is that a number of key streets will have through-traffic restrictions. One example is North Villas which in the proposal will have through-traffic restrictions at its junction with Camden Terrace.
It is not very clear from the small map as to where this traffic will be permitted to go in order to exit the area.
Residents of nearby Camden Mews are very concerned about the impact of this in possibly leading to an increase in traffic up this narrow cobbled back street.
This could have major health and safety issues and not in the words of the consultation “create a safer, healthier street”.
What is somewhat unfortunate, is that although the notice states “consulting with you” what residents have been offered is only one proposal with no options.
Is there any way the council could extend the consultation period and offer some options to consider? This would seem fairer for all.
