This skyscraper plan is totally unsuitable

• CONCERNING the Labtech / BC Partners proposals for Selkirk House, Travelodge, you invited comments, (Griff Rhys Jones joins campaign against tower block demolition, August 10).

BC Partners, the reticent private equity outfit which bought the sites last year, produced a model of its proposals and in particular of the 74-metre tower. They have appeared reluctant to put it on display.

It was available for inspection on one day in 2022 and was briefly on display in the window of Selkirk House from March of this year.

One glance at the model reveals quite how unsuitable the proposed skyscraper is in this location, both in terms of its height and bulk.

The model was subsequently removed and has been replaced with a two-dimensional and highly misleading impression of the proposed development.

The artificial viewpoint from which the image is presented seems to be designed to minimise the impact of the skyscraper. Presumably even the developer is ashamed of what it is proposing.

Perhaps BC Partners could be encouraged to find a way of making the model more widely available, so that Camden residents and businesses can see for themselves what is being proposed in and on the borders of the Bloomsbury Conservation Area, in the interests of private equity profit.
