‘More sinister is the pollution from the tailback’
• CAMDEN has installed temporary lights relating to the digging up of the road beyond the junction of Westbere and Minster roads in West Hampstead and the outcome is damaging and frightening.
Despite it being illegal to sound your horn while stationary or between 11.30pm and 7am there is frequent beeping from frustrated motorists as the tailback is often immense because there is a main road closure further down which is diverting the traffic. Great timing Camden.
Outside my home I saw a man in a balaclava (in this heat!) jump out of his car to menace another driver who’d beeped him. Just a simple cheap sign reminding drivers that beeping is illegal would help.
Added to the rumbling of huge lorries, horns, arguments is the loud music from open car windows all through hours of darkness. Most of us can’t sleep much.
More sinister is the pollution from the tailback. I am asthmatic and my health has worsened and there is a school in this road.
I am reminded that a mother won a case against a south London borough when her child’s death was found to have been contributed to by air pollution.
I have reported any illegal aspects to the police, without high hopes. This scheme is ill-managed.
