This noise is serious torture
Thursday, 9th February 2023
• I WENT down to the South Bank hoping to do a bit of sketching by the river, but when I got off the train at Blackfriars there was a high-pitched, penetrating, noise coming from a large building site behind the National Theatre or thereabouts. I had to walk all the way to the Royal Festival Hall to get out of earshot.
Over the past week the same noise has been blighting Leighton Road, Kentish Town, and stretches as far as Torriano Avenue. After walking around my local streets, I finally found the source of the noise, at a house in Falkland Road… a high-speed brick-cutting saw.
I spoke to some of the neighbours and discovered that it’s been driving everyone crazy. The noise is serious torture and I wonder how it can be legal?
