This is a road experiment too far
Thursday, 10th June 2021
• WITHOUT consultation, Camden Council has installed planters and no access signs to restrict access to Grafton Road.
This, together with other “experimental” restrictions to neighbouring roads has caused chaos and much ill feeling in the area.
For much of the time the only access and egress from Grafton road is by helicopter as Vicar’s Road is very narrow and often blocked by delivery drivers and council vehicles.
The residents of Vicar’s Road have the council to thank for the extra pollution and noise created by this diversion.
The planters in Grafton Road are unlit and placed in the road. It is only a matter of time before they cause a serious injury as they become invisible at night.
There is a constant flow of angry drivers trying to find their way out of the newly-created maze.
Attempts to turn around to avoid the no-entry restrictions are a danger to all in such a small space and especially directly next to a school.
Residents of the area now have to drive further and create more pollution to escape the maze and parking is now almost impossible despite the council raising parking fees to extortionate levels.
Council documents expressing the reasons for these changes are bogus. One of the reasons was to follow government guidelines on coronavirus. Perhaps the council think the virus has mutated and grown a driving licence.
If Camden wish to “experiment” then they should do it outside its councillors’ houses so they can directly see the consequences of their actions.
