• I REFER to Tom Muirhead’s letter (Clapped out thinking, February 1) about Camden’s proposed new heating system at Rowley Way.

I have been living in Rowley Way since 1992. The interiors of our flats are amazing. They were cleverly designed by Neave Brown, the architect, to maximise the space.

Our heating was very advanced for the 1960s. It uses heated walls. There are no radiators, another clever way of gaining space.

But now Camden say our heating is no longer fit for purpose. They want to change it but the new system they want to install will not work. They want to install ugly radiators.

Of the 520 flats, only a handful have ever had problems with the heating. There have never been mould nor damp problems. But with radiators there will be condensation. Mould will quickly appear.

We have installed modern furniture in our minimalist interior, but with radiators it won’t fit any more. Are we expected to get rid of our furniture?

Camden’s engineers have designed this whole thing based on empty flats. They have never come to furnished, lived-in, flats to see what they look like. Some residents have been living here for more than 50 years.

To protect the Grade II* listed interior, there are strict rules about what we can and cannot change. Residents are not allowed to remove any doors, kitchen, cupboards, or tiling.

But now Camden wants to interfere and change everything, to drill pipes through the walls, install new radiators everywhere, and make alterations to the fixtures and fittings.

They must not be allowed to do this. We want a better heating system that uses the new technologies and doesn’t spoil our listed interiors.
