They should let Leo be

Leo Fieran

Leo Fieran at home

• THE land Leo Fieran has occupied for many years is outside the area of planned development due to its awkward shape and position, (Squatters’ rights battle: ‘Hermit’ faces eviction from King’s Cross wasteland, June 2).

The claim that his presence living under a public walkway threatens the housing development is not justified as it has no purpose.

Leo has lived there for years without recourse to public funds or causing any nuisance. He is not alcoholic and keeps fit through work steadily improving the area.

Whatever he needs has either been found, paid for from odd jobs, or has been given. It has not proven unsafe for him as claimed.

I attended court with Leo as a “McKenzie friend” and understand the need for Camden Council to assert its rights but the time to act upon them is when they need the space. Until then I call upon the council to let him be.
