They don’t understand the needs of autistic people

• I CONTINUE to battle for suitable housing after losing two homes to High Speed 2 in just under five years.
It is Autism Awareness Month and I would remind everyone that living with autism is very difficult.
Camden Council very much do not care about autistic adults and I have been attempting to communicate my needs with them since August 2021.
I have had to speak to HS2 too and, comparatively, they have been more forthcoming with my disability than Camden.
My care needs are routinely ignored and it’s an attitude I see throughout the council.
Many adult autistics are left with very little help and support. There are many housing officers who lack awareness of autism and how it can impact an individual’s life.
The council is legally obliged to house disabled residents in suitable homes, but many of us have this very basic requirement not met.
After having my home bulldozed, and then being forced out of my former home due to HS2 again, I have been displaced once again in the most unsuitable environment where I’ve had to tolerate noise, ground shakes, wall shakes, and abuse.
I suffer from sensory overloads and have found myself in unsuitable housing purely due to council staff unable to understand my needs.
I have been repeatedly ignored and snubbed by senior figures at the council. It is traumatic. Change needs to happen.
