There’s no doubt Camden is London’s borough of culture

Chikeze

Chikezie Nnadi, who appears in Camden Council’s promotional video

• I RECOGNISED the photograph from the video promoting Camden’s “London Borough of Culture” bid (Peeps Culture shock? No, it’s a shoo-in, August 17) as the face of the man who holds court between Sainsbury’s and St Michael’s Church in Camden Road.

There, I often hear him call out cheerful greetings to passers-by. On a day I felt particularly miserable he called to me: “I love you.” Spirits lifted, I called back: “I love you too.” He went all coy. The way small boys do.

This charmer, man and boy, is a natural ambassador for the rough, yet true, edges of the streets of Camden. Its bid for “London Borough of Culture” assured.
