There should be transparency about the conduct of candidates

Thursday, 24th March 2022

• SERIOUS allegations were made on the internet concerning the past behaviour of one Labour candidate at the forthcoming local election.

We wrote to the Labour Party organiser in Camden asking whether those allegations were true. We did not receive a reply.

We tried repeatedly to contact Camden Labour by phone, without success. If those allegations are untrue Camden Labour should just say so.

Your Letters pages over the last few months show disturbing evidence that points to a lack of integrity in the selection of candidates by the Labour Party.

As far as we can tell, this is unprecedented and goes well beyond the usual complaints by unsuccessful candidates.

No such concerns have been raised about the conduct of any of the other parties standing for election this year.

Russia’s occupation of Ukraine has rightly triggered outrage here in the UK. Israel’s occupation of Palestine is an injustice of similar magnitude. It should not be met by silence.

We call on Camden’s Labour Party to introduce transparency about the conduct of their candidates. They owe it to the people of Camden.
