There may be another reason Labour lost in Uxbridge

• AS Danny Beales slopes back to Camden with his tail between his legs having failed to be elected as MP in a seat Labour were very confident about winning, I see that the party’s failure is all about the unpopularity of ULEZ.

There may be an alternative explanation. For the purposes of his election campaign, Danny Beales deleted social media where he was a flag-waving cheerleader for “trans rights” and dismissed / ignored the concerns of women and girls.

However on the internet history is for ever, and his reputation preceded him. Some of the voters of Uxbridge and South Ruislip were unimpressed.

An alternative explanation for Beales’s failure to win over the voters of Uxbridge and South Ruislip may be that there were a minimum of 495 voters who care about women’s rights and single sex spaces.

At the very least this was a contributory factor and the Labour Party should take heed. If only Sir Keir Starmer would agree to meet and talk to the women of Camden, as they have been asking for months, perhaps Labour would present a more convincing and attractive option at the ballot box.

This is not a niche issue. Women are 51 per cent of the population and we are not willing to give up our hard-won rights. Now we in Camden are waiting to see whether Demolition Danny’s transformation is permanent or whether it was political expediency.
