There is an irony about the Tories and redrawn boundaries
Thursday, 13th June 2019
• I READ with some interest that Camden Conservative leader Oliver Cooper criticised the proposed boundary changes for the council wards, (Tory wards to lose out? June 6).
I cannot help but find this a little ironic since the Boundary Commission has adopted a number of potential new boundaries that were originally proposed by the Camden Conservative group.
The Conservatives’ original proposals, which are available on the commission’s website, state very clearly that they proposed to remove a number of streets in South End Green from the Hampstead Town ward, including Hampstead Hill Gardens, Pond Street, and Maryon Mews (see pages 51-58 of their report for Hampstead Town ward).
Since the Boundary Commission has adopted this proposal, there has rightly been a lot of anger in those streets affected.
However, this anger should not be directed towards the commission; it should be directed towards the Camden Conservatives who originally suggested this ridiculous idea.
