There is a way to get cleaner air

• THE Camden Air Action letter is not based in reality, (For safer air we need to curb traffic, October 4). Every large successful city has a traffic problem, and nobody has managed to solve it.
While restricting traffic may have good results in certain locations, for example, Tavistock Place, it is never going to be a city-wide solution. But there is a way to reduce the impact on air quality right now, and that is the rapid electrification of transport in the city.
This is happening already. We have electric cars, taxis, vans and buses all being manufactured in the UK and slowly being adopted. The majority of UPS vans out of the Kentish Town depot are now electric conversions.
Camden Council could do more to speed up this transition. Easy things to do are copy the successful Westminster scheme of only charging for the first 10 minutes in pay-to-park bays for electric vehicles.
Resident parking fees for electric vehicles should be zero, and increased for diesel and petrol cars. Conversion of lamp-posts to charge points is cheap and quick.
They also need to lobby Transport for London to speed up the purchase of electric buses… and where are the electric 214 and 46 buses promised for summer 2018?
With electric transport we will still have to live with traffic but at least it will be quiet and non-polluting.
