‘Twitter should close down hatemongering accounts hiding behind a cloak of anonymity’

• I JOINED the 48-hour walk out from Twitter organised by Tracy-Ann Oberman in protest against the inadequate response to Wiley’s use of the platform to promote vile anti-Semitism, (Race hate Twitter walkout, July 30).

Freedom of speech is precious but it has legal limits. For example, it is illegal to shout “fire” in a crowded theatre without valid reason.

Similarly it is illegal to incite racial hatred; but too often social media platforms are slow to respond when this happens.

Many of the most egregious examples use bogus names so surely it would be a good start if Twitter was to close down hatemongering accounts hiding behind a cloak of anonymity.
