The young demand a people’s vote
Thursday, 21st February 2019
• WE’RE now 32 months on from the referendum result – where are we?
With a deal that makes the future of young people worse, threatens our ability to live, learn, and earn abroad, and offers no real guarantees over European Union citizens’ rights in the United Kingdom and it’s also a deal that has been overwhelmingly rejected by MPs. Parliament is in deadlock, with clear opposition to all of the alternative options.
I am a student at King’s College London, that benefits from £132million in EU research grants and has close to 5,000 students from the EU and European Economic Area.
I am concerned that any deal the government ends up with will have a negative impact on our studies and crucial research. A no-deal Brexit would be disastrous.
Young people across the country, as well as in Holborn and St Pancras, know that the only way forward is to give this decision back to the people and let them have their say on the future of our country.
Sir Keir Starmer should listen to the views of young constituents who are overwhelming opposed to Brexit and want a final say on the future of our country.
Young people will neither forgive nor forget MPs who put their future at risk. We demand a people’s vote.
