Art on both sides of the road on the West End Lane bridge
• YOUR report about the murals painted on the Network Rail bridges in the summer of 2020 gave the “true story” only according to Alketa Xhafa Mripa.
It is unsurprising that community representatives were approached and “declined to participate” and that illustrates the central conflict artist Ms Mripa created by failing to make contact with the wider neighbourhood or representatives of other groups to inform them of her plan, and imposing the murals without warning, virtually “by stealth”.
The real issue was not about rough sleeping, as director Roberto Duque claims. A more accurate reason for the “row” was put forward in your report by West Hampstead Labour councillor Shiva Tiwari, that the viewpoints of a “really involved community” were not considered and the rather self-promoting project went ahead without sufficient collaboration or buy from “outsiders”.
