The tree vandalism reminded me…
Thursday, 20th July 2017
• HOW sad to read about the destruction of trees in Cardington Street (Vandals eye up trees, July 13).
Those trees form a beautiful avenue, a part of the “old” London that many of us revere.
I note the Temperance Hospital has been demolished. If you remember, Gordon Brown when prime minister, gave a lot of money to the higher echelons in medical research to use for the medical research centre, eventually named The Francis Crick Institute.
You might also recall that the medical research “scouts” deemed the Temperance Hospital site as a suitable one for the medical centre. Then the powers that be suddenly switched to plans for its present site.
It makes one wonder who knew what and when – certainly some people knew long before the rest of us what savage destruction was to come.
Looking back at my notes I can see it was in Gordon Brown’s time that the monster of HS2 was born, during secret dealings with the EU and furthered by the likes of Lord Adonis.
