• I SEE the Conservatives have begun intensive campaigning in Swiss Cottage in advance of next year’s elections to Camden Council.

Unfortunately (for them) their glossy printed leaflets are a waste of time, since their only focus is on denouncing the Labour council for the cuts it’s making to refuse collection etc.

It’s a waste of time because by now even the dogs in the street know the cuts are caused by the Conservative government’s vicious cuts to local government funding. For all its faults Camden’s Labour council has been incredibly creative in devising ways of working with a budget that the Tories have slashed by 50 per cent and is continuing to defend all essential services and minimise the impact that cuts have on the most vulnerable.

Were the Swiss Cottage Conservatives to stop knocking Labour and tell us what their own policies would be, I think they would be at a loss, because the only policies they have are cuts and privatisation.

The Tories have nothing else to offer.
